Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Her family was in Barcelona and has been described as an "atypical pop star" due to her variety of musical styles. After being captivated by Spanish folk music when she was 13, she studied musicology at the Catalonia College of Music while playing at music bars and weddings.She was able to complete her studies with distinction, thanks to her cover album that she co-produced together with Raul Refree in Los Angeles (2017), and the baccalaureate project El Mal Querer (2018). The project reinvented flamenco and mingled it with pop music and hip-hop music. The songs "Malamente", and "Pienso in tu Mira" were popular among the Spanish public , and were met with the acclaim of all critics. El Mal Querer, who was awarded the Latin Grammy Award as Album of the Year and is listed in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time was the catalyst for Rosalia's rise to the international music scene. [12][1313 Rosalia was a pioneer of urbano music through her 2019 albums "Con Altura" and "Yo Ti x Tu x Mi", having global success. Her third album, Motomami (2022) she introduced reggaeton with an original new twist, moving away from the flamenco style of her first album. Its songs "La Fama" and "Saoko", caught the attention of international audiences and received the highest-rated album by Metacritic. Rosalia has amassed ten number-one songs throughout her career in her native country. This is the most for an artist hailing from the region. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year nominations) as well as four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been conferred to Rosalia. She also was awarded two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019 for "changing the current sound of mainstream songs with her unique flamenco pop". [18] She also became the first Spanish-singing group to be nominated as Best New Artist at the Grammys. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Rosalia is the youngest of four children to Pilar Tobella, an entrepreneur who runs a small metalworking business. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They separated in 2019. Her 23-year-old older sibling, Pilar "Pili" Vila (born 1989), who works with Rosalia as her stylist and creative director. Rosalia was interested in performing arts from her early years. She was able to discover the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical studies in Taller de Musics. She took a six-year course at the academy. She was a student at the Raval School, and then transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she was a singer on her own at weddings and in bars with musical music where she was paid "a less than 80 euros, or as a payment for dinner".
