In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the highest-streamed hit song during the course of six months. At the time of 2020, some reggaeton musicians were unhappy with their genre's shift towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation namely Rauw Alejandro, sought to keep reggaeton evolving. It often featured elements from different genres as well as electronic dance.
